As you guys know, The Big Groove Concert is happening this Sunday, 10 July at 7:30PM!
This is a concert not to be missed! It will be featuring many overseas crews such as The Beat Freaks (USA), Wrecking Crew Orchestra (JAPAN), and Big Toe Crew (VIETNAM) and many others!

FB Camp Updates

Dear Juniors (Seniors included),

Those who did not get the indemnity form for the camp, please get it from Vice-President, Charmaine, around 6:30pm at BLK E any day next week except Friday. The form is crucial because without it, you won't be able to go for the camp, which is a huge waste just because of a form you forgot to submit/fill up.

The camp's going to be a blast for everyone who's going and you are strongly encouraged to come because it'll be a pity if you miss it but studies come first so if you need to study, you can bring your books/notes to camp.

So, please get your forms filled up and signed and hand it up on the day of the camp itself. If there's any problems/issues, please contact Charmaine or Kathleen.

Foreign Bodies Camp & Club Funds
The next thing is regarding FB Camp and club funds.
FB Camp will be on the 21st - 23rd June, during the term break, so keep your schedules free!

As mentioned before, juniors will have to contribute $20 each to the club funds, which will be used throughout the year for your activities, starting with FB Camp! So please bring However, if you are really unable to contribute this money for the club, don't worry, just contact Kathleen and we will figure something out for you!

The Big Groove 2011
Asia's Hip Hop festival, The Big Groove (TBG) will be back this year and the concert will be held on July 10! TBG brings together renown dancers and crews from around the world for a night of entertaining performances.

Tickets will be $30, $35, $40.
The higher priced tickets are for the best seats of course!
We recommend you go together as a batch, so decide together which seats you guys want.

If you are interested, inform Beverley, our treasurer as soon as possible or during practice!

The first official practice cum orientation will be held this Friday, 27th May. Please eat your dinner before hand and report to Block E Studio @ 6:30PM sharp as we will be taking your attendance. Please do not be late!

Hello Auditionees,

First of all, I'd like to say good job to everyone who turned up. It was truly enjoyable to see everyone give their best to learn the steps and showcase what they learned in the short time. We hope that everyone is satisfied with what they showcased at the audition. If you're not, and you're worried that you lost your chance, relax! You still have a good chance, so don't give up just yet!

FOREIGN BODIES AUDITION 2011
We'll be having our Foreign Bodies audition on the 5th and 6th of May 2011.
It will start at 6.30pm sharp and end around 9/10pm.

For the audition, we will be teaching a short, simple and fun choreography and
all you have to do is to learn the choreography to the best of your abilities.

For those who have signed up at our Club Crawl booth,
please come on the preferred day of choice or you can change to the other day if you can't make it on the preferred day.

For those who didn't sign up,
You can still come on any of the two days mentioned for the audition. You can sign up on the spot.

Regarding what to wear, please wear comfortable clothes that you're able to dance in, preferably sweat pants, basketball shorts and covered shoes.

Please do not wear FBTs, shorts, spaghetti stripes, tank top, etc

Last but not least, have fun and we'll see you at the auditions!

Let's us all go support danzation alright? It's something like a production from NRA (new revolving age). The date for this show is at 7th (friday) and 8th (saturday) of january 2011. The timing is from 7pm to 9pm. And it is held at NUS University Cultural Centre (Hall). The ticket pricing are 15 buck, 20 bucks and 25 bucks respectively. Firstly, we are going to have our very own Production Roadshow.
Time: 10am-4pm
Venue: Fast-Food Canteen (NYP)
Date: 28th-29th October 2010 (Thursday and Friday)
*Excuse letter will be given out!

2nd, NYP Lunch-time performance
Time: Yet to be confirmed by SAO
Venue: Atrium
Date: 10th November 2010

3rd, SGH Arts concert
Time: 7pm (sound check will be done at 5pm)
Venue: SGH
Date: 12th November 2010

4th, NEA Clean and Green performance
Time: 2pm
Venue: Main Atrium @ Basement One, United Square Shopping Mall (101 Thomson Road)
Date: 14th November 2010

As we all can see, the dates are all pretty near each other. Thus, we will be using the same items for all 4 performances. (Juniors will put up 1 performance for Lunchtime, SGH and Nea)
However, Due to the space constrain, for production roadshow, only a few dancers can be involved in the performance (We will leave it up to the choreographers to decide).
For the other 3 performances, all are welcomed to join! Esp. LUNCHTIMEEEEEE! (:

The Asian hip hop festival, The Big Groove (TBG) is back this year. TBG 2010 brings together some of the world's most awarded and most entertaining dance groups. Each ticket cost 30 bucks. And if you are interested, please inform Elaine as soon as possible or during the next prac. There is a deadline for the early bird ticket which is before the 26th June 2010. Thus, please cooperate by passing Elaine the money on either this coming thursday or friday. If you had ordered the tickets from Elaine and did not make any payment before this coming friday, she will assume that you don't want the tickets anymore.

The Big Groove (TBG) will be held on July 11, 2010, which is a sunday at Singapore Expo Hall 8. The timing for it is 7.30pm to 11.30pm.

Hi Guys! As you all know, this coming monday - 3rd May 2010, there will be a Lunchtime Performance. It's a part of club crawl, and we are allocated 15 mins which will be from 1.30pm-1.45pm.*(please take note of the changes)

Coming Up Event

R16 South East Asia Urban Arts Festival

Witness South East Asian Streetdance history as the first ever Popping and Locking battle eliminations for a major world event goes down at Padang, Singapore on April 10th.

It will feature a dance battle tournament in three categories, Popping solos, Locking solos and Breaking two vs two. The winners of the Popping and Locking categories will represent their nation at the R16 International Urban Arts Festival in Seoul, Korea on July 3rd and 4th. Breaking winners will win a cash prize.

What is Popping, Locking, Breaking?
Popping, Locking and Breaking are all street dance styles which formed without formal direction in urban cityscapes. Popping and Locking appeared in the greater L.A. area in the mid 70s whilst Breaking had it's origins in the South Bronx, NYC in the late 70s. Today, these dance styles have spread out around the world from across the US, to Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, South East Asia and Singapore

What is a Dance Battle Tournament?
A dance battle in a competition such as R16 is when two opposing individuals or teams face off to show their range of ability, feeling, technical skills and routines in a pre-determined number of rounds, with a judge presiding and ,making a verdict on the winner. The DJ selects the music on the spot, during the battle, thus the competitors have no opportunity to rehearse or practice to that song - they have to rely on their wits, skills and creativity to do the best spontaneous performance that they can. Individuals/Teams battle in a knockout tournament format (Quarters, Semis and Finals) until a champion is found.

The R16 Festival is based in Seoul and for the first time, they are hosting prelims around the world to get dancers to represent their country in Korea against the world. In R16 South East Asia we have....

China vs Malaysia vs Singapore vs Indonesia vs Thailand vs Australia vs Vietnam.

You know how we do, all day every day holding the funkstyles down in SEA.

Tickets are free to watch, so come on down if you in Singapore and support the event.

Hey all!

For those who missed out on the Club Crawl mass meeting. This is going be a summarised version of it so that you guys don't feel so lost and left out k?! (:

Concept and Flow

This year, we were planning to have a storyline/plot to link all our dances together.
Our storyline is going to be about the life as a junior. We have spitted the performance into 3 segments. Namely, Cool/attractive factor, School life factor and Family love factor.
For the first part, we will be portraying this guy (AKA Nerd) who will be looking very lost. Upon seeing our first dance (Mass Dance), he will be very much interested in joining FB. During the mass dance, we will have a few seconds 'pause'. During this pause, one of the dancers will go up to the nerd to pass him a flyer. After which, we will continue with the mass dance. The nerd will be holding the flyer and will be looking very interested in the performance.

Next up, the nerd will have a total transformation. He will be dressed very hip-hop is and will be dancing the guys Hip-hop, which is our second item.
This portray ours first point which is joining FB will make you more cooler!

Secondly, we will be having a school-based concept. This segment is for the poppers and lockers. The poppers and lockers will be sitting on chairs(Props) , pretending to be studying. Then suddenly, someone's phone starts ringing (Some popping music will start playing). The poppers will try their best to control themselves from popping but they can't. So, the poppers will start dancing. After which, the same concept will go for the lockers. After the popping and locking item is over, comes the girl's hip hop.

This second segment is to portray that, dancing is our passion. The uncontrollable urge to dance, even during studying/school time!

Lastly, we are going to portray FB family bonding. Thus, we will have a lyrical item to bring the mood down.
We will show that, even when you feel lonely and sad, FB family will always be there to share your sorrows!
we will then end off with a Bboy Item and mass dance item.

The Flair'Nation crew welcomes one & all to our very first production staged and produced by our very own.

Everyday colours will bring audiences through the journey of the crew from their humble beginnings till present day. Everyday colours will highlight the similarity of dance and life itself, that it's not just about the dance, it's also about being a family, standing as one through thick & thin. Expect lots of dancing and laughter, but most importantly, lot's of love.

Everyday colours will be showcasing a wide field of talent in the many genres of street dance, along with many close collaborations with crews in singapore (such as Luminiq Crew,Full of Funk & SGC). Dance is not all about competitions and fame, but the friendships, knowledge and experience one picks up along the way.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter which club or crew we come from, studio or street, hip hop or funk, as long as we're from Singapore, we're all considered to be under one crew. And ultimately contribute to the ever growing, Singapore dance scene.

Hey foreign bodies,

This COMING MONDAY (2^nd November 2009). Ian A.K.A chunky is coming to NYP and bringing along his friends from Australia to NYP Block E. These friends of his are dancers and have been dancing for a long time and know a few dances that we are not exposed to such as soul dance. This is a good opportunity for us to learn as much as we can from them. They are going to conduct a Locking workshop open to ALL Foreign Bodies Member at 7.30pm. In this workshop they are going to share as much as they can based on their experience.

It is highly advisable for anyone to attend this as it is like a once in a lifetime chance thing and such opportunity are not that frequent.

The proposed "Mini-Concert 2010" will be cancelled.

Below are some brief reasons by Andee:

The committee members, 6 of them, Fadhlan, Jin Wen, Evelyn, Arisa, Karen and Andee met up the other day to discuss about the problems brought up that day during the Official Meeting. They also made changes to the proposal here and there, and tried to come up with the best solutions.

Hence, the decision have been to cancel the mini-concert.

“Stop Hurting, Start Dancing!”

[This dance competition is in conjunction with their main event S.T.O.P: Stop The Ouch, Please! S.T.O.P is organized to increase the awareness of women under domestic and dating violence to youths and to raise funds for these victims. All the revenues generated from the event will be given as charitable funding to the organisation PAVe (Centre for Providing Alternatives to Violence) to support their noble cause. This fund raiser will be in a form of party night on the 13th Nov in a local distinguish club.]

They will be selecting dance teams through only one round of audition! Dancers who make it into the Finals will be granted FREE entry into their local prestigious club on their party night!!

Instructions for 2nd junior exam:

Please decide a representative for each group and the one selected, do get back to Fadhlan latest by this Tuesday, 22nd September 2009. Contact him through his email.
Representatives are to confirm with Fadhlan the total number of members that can commit to this exam. This exam will be held 6 weeks from now, 16th October 2009. A pre-showcase will be held on 9th October 2009 in order for the seniors to check on each group’s progress.
I apologise if any juniors’ names are left out. If there is a case where your name is not included please get back to Fadhlan as soon as possible.

Even though you have to prepare for the upcoming 2nd exam, weekly Friday junior practices still continues and no group will be an exception to skip their weekly practices for exam preparation’s sake.

This week junior practice is on this Friday, 25th September 2009 at BLK A studio (A239).

On 30th May 2009, Hybreed came together for the first time to form an All Female Crew which is consisted of 8 Unique Ladies from Foreign Bodies, NYP Singapore. Hybreed is make up of Arjuna, Evelyn, Tricia, Regina, Hanisah, Norazura, Jasmine and Shaqilah. The girls have achieved individual success when dancing the styles of their own. But have come together to form and All Female with Musculine Styles of HIP HOP Dance.

Being inspired by Leader of Female Dancer (LOFD)from JAPAN, and The Beat Freaks from Los Angeles California, we want to inspire the Ladies of the coming generation that Females can dance just as well if not better in what is perceived as a male dominated dance world.

Lets congratulate Hybreed for getting into the finals of Dance Crown of Honour Competition!

New update for SWAGG OUT HipHop Dance Workshop 09

Ev Dance Factory have been approached by another polytechnic regarding this workshop. As the workshop registration has started pretty long ago, available date left:

12 September 2009
Available instructors:
-Mariel martin (3.30pm- 5pm)
-Ellen Kim (1.15pm- 2.45pm)
-Jun Quemado (2.00pm-3.30pm)

Each private class is $1050, and a maximum of 40 students can be in the class. At the moment, they have 25 dancers who are interested in this workshop, so wanna ask if any will be interested to join the workshop with them, which might most probably take place at the studio in SP. Therefore, We only 15 slots left, please reply/answer back to Dori by Friday if you are interested.

The instructors are teaching mainly LA style, depending on their songs too.

Once the number of dancers are confirmed, Lum will text everyone the price (depending on the number of students in the class) and the available instructors, and you can make their decisions again by then :) So nothing is confirm yet. You won't have to pay once you agreed. So if you are interested, is it possible to provide him your contact number so that he can text you.

Biodata:
Travelling throughout the world he has taught in various countries and states such as New York, Washington dc, Las Vegas, new Jersey, Texas, Germany, Canada, London, Norway and much more. His choreography credits include TM, TM juniors, choreographers carnival, culture shock and future shock San Diego! He is thankful for that wonderful opportunity which has allowed more to flow hn his life. While being in California he has danced for Team Millenia and even took part in America’s Best Dance crew. Currently as Director of the group, he also teaches at LA’s most reknowned studio: “Debbie Reynolds” & “Millenium Dance Complex”. He is excited to continue staying inspired by doing what he loves, performing, training, teaching, travelling and directing.

Biodata: Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Keone started his dancing career in the year of 2004 with a group of high school friends. He started his training with KJ Gonzales and Future Shock SD under the direction of Belle and Rainen Paguio. Then furthered on to train with the likes of Formality, Culture Shock San Diego, various classes and currently Choreo Cookies. In the year of 2007 Keone was able to further his choreography passion, by winning a choreographers competition, Maxt Out, with his friend Vinh Nguyen. He was also given the opportunity of teaching in places and dance teams up and down California, Washington DC, and Norway. Currently directing Future Shock San Diego, Keone, at the age of 19, hopes he can always inspire others with what he has learnt.

Mariel Martin
Age: 24
Funkanometry SF, Choreo cookies

Biodata: From Funkanometry SF, she eventually was appointed Co-Artistic Director. She also helped develop the youth team Funksters and acted as Co-Artistic Director for three years. She is part of Choreo Cookies, which she believes to be one of the most talented teams on the planet. She has travelled Collumbia, Norway, Germany, Canada, Finland, as well as in the U.S like Chicago, Boulder, Las Vegas, New Jersey, and all over California. Mariel has no idea how to classify her style, but just likes to think of herself as a person who is in love with music, no matter what genre, and tries to simply interpret her appreciation for it.

Biodata: Ellen Kim is a striving dancer and choreographer from the Bay Area, training independently in dancing and choreographing for over 9 years. She began dancing with City Shock SF under the direction of Darnell Carroll when she was a sophomore in high school. After dancing with City Shock for five years, she later became a dance captain and contributing choreographer for the group. After joining Funkanometry SF in 2004, Ellen's passion for dance, as well as her amazing performance abilities, earned her a spot on the Funks SF Artistic Circle as one of their leading Dance Principals. She has since choreographed many pieces for the company, and continues to inspire and set a high standard for her fellow company members through her leadership and dance talent. In 2008, she was motivated to start her own company with Kyle Hanagami called the Lost Kids. Six individuals from the Bay has come together to use their love for dancing to help out their communities by holding workshops to raise money for different charities.

The weekly junior practice will resume back on the 4^th September 2009 at 6pm ( BLK A studio). This time round all juniors will attend this following practice regardless whether you`re Thursday or Friday group.

As they come in limited quantity, do give us your orders asap to avoid disappointments.

The competition will be judged based on the following criteria:
a. Choreography – 40% (Originality 20%, Creativity 20%)
b. Dance Skills – 40% (Technique 15%, Execution & Synchronisation 15%, Coordination
10%)
c. Stage Presence – 20% (Audience Impact 10%, Costume & Appearance 10%)

The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entertained.

SWAGG OUT HipHop Dance Workshop 09‏

Dear Dancers,

EV Dance Factory will be conducting a series of Hip hop Dance Workshops by star choreographers from Los Angeles, California such as Keone Madrid, Mariel Martin, Jun Quemado, Ellen Kim in the period of 11th-14th September.

We therefore would like to invite all of you to come take part this 3-days dance workshop and share the great experience.

On the other hand, we have a few time slots blocked just for tertiary dance clubs to enjoy private workshops by these instructors at a discounted student rate.

Workshops will be held at the convenience of your school’s dance studio. Please note that the dance club has to arrange their own studio bookings prior to the private workshop conducted.

Teaching rates are S$1050 per instructor/ per class (90min), Limited to 40 Students per class.

The Closing date of booking will be on 08/08/09 (Saturday), however i had send email to EV Dance Factory for the remaining time slots that are still available for you us.

Most of our slots for private workshops are being booked, below is the remaining time slots that are still available for you guys to choose from.

Hi Seniors!!!

Please take note that there’ll be a halt to the Senior Open Classes till the end of the Semestral Exams. As I understand that there are a lot of upcoming performances to prepare for, the intended last session next week will be cancelled.

HOWEVER, we’ll still be continuing to hold more practices/sessions. And there’ll be more genres and more to share and learn when it re-commences. Please do approach me (Beverly) if you want to learn something in particular! The grandseniors would like to hear your comments and opinions from previous practices to improvise for better sessions in future. And, I’ll try my best to ‘fulfill’ your preferences/interests. =) So do stay updated through the blog on WHEN the classes will start again!

In the meantime, STUDY HARD, do well for performances, and enjoy! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE FOR EXAMS, ON BEHALF OF THE GRANDSENIORS!

All juniors are to report at BLK E forum (above North Canteen) by 11.30am SHARP.
Do not be LATE. (You`ve Been warned)

1) Sleeping Bag

2) 6 Sets of Clothes (At least 1 set of dark coloured clothes for water games, especially girls and everyone pls do not bring any red/bright coloured clothing)

3) Toiletries- toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo soap, (girls please bring sanitary pads in case. )

4) Sufficient Undergarments

5) Socks

6) Covered shoes (For dance)

7) Slippers (Strictly for sleeping/night time. No slippers are to be use for dancing.)

8) 3 Set of Newspaper (We have our own purpose for asking you to bring this.)

Witness South East Asian Streetdance history as the first ever Popping and Locking battle eliminations for a major world event goes down at Padang, Singapore on April 10th.

The R16 Festival is based in Seoul and for the first time, they are hosting prelims around the world to get dancers to represent their country in Korea against the world. In R16 South East Asia we have....China vs Malaysia vs Singapore vs Indonesia vs Thailand vs Australia vs Vietnam.
